About Us

The district of Neelum Valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is well-known for its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural legacy, and strategic location along the Line of Control (LoC). The District Court of Neelum serves as the principal judicial authority at the district level in AJK. It governs under the High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and is a crucial component of the AJK judiciary. Their responsibilities consist of addressing civil, criminal, and constitutional matters. The court upholds the rule of law, justice, and legal remedy in the area. The judicial system of Neelum has deep historical roots, dating back to the pre-independence period when the region was governed by the legal framework of the former sovereign State of Jammu and Kashmir. After the liberation of AJK in 1947, the judiciary was restructured to align with the AJK Interim Constitution 1974.

The court structure includes civil and criminal courts, comprising the Sessions Court, Additional Sessions Court, Civil Judge Courts, and Magistrate Courts. These courts exercise original, appellate, and special jurisdiction, as defined under the AJK Courts and Laws Code. The Sessions Court, presided over by the District and Sessions Judge, handles criminal cases and appeals from lower courts. Civil Judges and Magistrates oversee civil, family, and commercial disputes in accordance with AJK legal statutes. With ongoing judicial reforms and technological advancements, the District Court Neelum has adopted modern case management systems to improve efficiency and transparency. As part of the broader AJK judicial framework, it continues to uphold justice, protect fundamental rights, and ensure legal awareness in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
